the other day i saw a pin that gave me pause and if i’m honest, made me sad. it said, “life is short. buy the shoes.”
we (i) want. we (i) need. we (i) just have to have this or that and then- oh yes, we’re (i’m) positive- then
life will be complete it’ll all be good.
i don’t think buying things is wrong…but i do struggle with the selfishness i feel our culture presses on us. it’s tempting to believe that buying extravagantly is just the way life is.
i realize the word ‘extravagantly’ may seem over the top, but how can my buying not be extravagant when the majority of the world lives on less than $2 a day?
does anyone else wrestle with these things?
i feel like my thoughts are sumo wrestling each other. ring 1: caitlin-who-loves-new-things v. caitlin-who-wants-to-be-resourceful. ring 2: caitlin-who-is-selfish v. caitlin-who-is selfless. ring 3: caitlin-who-idolizes-clothing v. caitlin-who-worships-only-God.
maybe if i rented a sumo suit and wrestled my closet i’d gain some clarity.
