Summer Remix Week 3 Link Up

Summer Remix Week 3 Link Up

Greater Than Rubies

This month is flying by for me, but last week, I started getting a little tired of my pieces.

My schedule has been really different than usual this month, so it’s been challenging to come up with outfits that work for the activities we’ve had going on.

It’s also been cool and rainy…what?! It’s Texas. In July. These things do not normally go together.

But because of all that, I’ve come up with some different combinations that I wouldn’t have otherwise. I also realized I’d been resorting to the same types of combinations: tee with shorts or my maxi skirt, mostly. So I tried to reach for pieces I hadn’t worn much yet, and started pairing items together that I don’t usually, like my peplum top and shorts.

Here’s what I came up with:

Monday: Look 14

I wouldn’t normally think to pair the blush tank with the chartreuse sweater,
but everything else was dirty, and I ended up loving the way it looks.
Pairing unique colors together can give a look a more “grown up” feel.

After work, I changed into this to run a few errands. It was super comfortable and made me feel so chic. You can bet it’ll be on repeat after the challenge is over!

Tuesday: Look 16

This look was so easy and felt like I was wearing pajamas. Win. :) I wore it to a work meeting, and then changed into this:

We took the afternoon off to hang out with my in-laws, who were in town for a family wedding last weekend. My MIL and I went shopping and I found the most amazing printed skirt at the Clothes Mentor for $16 to replace an old one of mine.

Wednesday: Look 18

Classic pieces never fail to look polished together. Styling them with fun accessories and a brightly colored cardigan (that I forgot for the photo shoot) make them look fresh and modern.

Thursday: Look 19

This was one of my favorite combos. It was raining, so I opted for a dress to avoid getting my pants wet, and went with simple flats. I added in a subtle pattern mix with the leopard belt, and grabbed the cardigan since it was a tad cool.

Friday: Look 20

This is what I planned to wear to the wedding. Unfortunately, it took us double the usual time to get from Dallas to Austin and we missed the ceremony completely. I didn’t have time to change out of the dress I had worn to a funeral that morning, so I partied in a non-challenge-approved dress.

Saturday: Look 21

Before we headed back, we meandered around Austin (and I took zero photos…what is wrong with me?), ate at um, several restaurants (they just have so many delicious options!) and caught up with friends. It was the perfect way to end the weekend trip.

Sunday: Look 22

It’s warming up again! This felt fresh and summery after a week of layers.

Yeah, all the rain has moved our way, and it’s throwing me off! I ended up switching out my plum tank (I had worn it already but only as an under layer and it could barely be seen) for a green one, and going through all my outfit ideas again. I came up with some new ideas, wore revamped versions of previously worn outfits, and had a big DUH moment with denim on denim! Thankfully, outfits were pretty easy this week, because life is hard – prayers would be appreciated.

    • Caitlin Author July 21, 2014 at 3:33 PM

Absolutely praying! Let me know if there’s anything else I can do.

  • Crystelle July 21, 2014 at 11:49 AM

Wow! you looks so good. You have such a talent for modeling! So natural and pretty…. :)

Oh goodness, where are your black and nude strappy wedges from?! I’ve been looking for a pair of nude strappy wedges for ages, and they go so well with all of your outfits – so fresh and summery!!

  • Nicole July 21, 2014 at 2:17 PM

You’ve done such a good job of remixing all of these pieces! I need to do a better job…. I love those pink shorts and the nude wedges!!

Thanks so much, Nicole! I’ve had lots and lots of remixing practice :) You definitely get better as you go!

  • Becky @ bybmg July 21, 2014 at 2:56 PM

I’m struggling a little with what I desire to wear and what I should actually wear. I’m hanging out with my boys around the house a lot, which makes my skirt choices seem a little silly, but I WANT to wear them. So, I change out of the lounge shorts and t-shirts and try to get dressed for something each day. I think a remix would be a little easier if school were in session and I was teaching every day and had to dress up.

Love you outfits this week. That white peplum top is gorgeous! Love all the ways you’ve paired it.

    • Caitlin Author July 21, 2014 at 3:43 PM

That can be tough! I’m really glad that you’re wearing what you want to because you want to even if it isn’t necessary to dress up a little. Clothes are clothes and if you’ve got great ones, you should wear them! That’s part of the reason I started the seasonal remixes, because I work from home most days, and I found myself slipping into wearing yoga pants and tee shirts all day. When I wore “real” clothes, I had more energy, got more done, and felt better about life in general.

  • Ashley McNeese July 21, 2014 at 3:12 PM

That blush and chartreuse outfit looked awesome… I wouldn’t have though to combine those colors either! The striped dress with the cardigan and belt was my favorite. :) Also, you look SO pretty in these pictures!

    • Caitlin Author July 21, 2014 at 3:44 PM

Aww thanks, Ashley! You made me blush :) We got a new camera lens, and I swear it’s magic. It makes you look awesome even if you’re having a bad hair/clothes/everything day. I wish it could follow me around and people could look at me through it! ;)

  • Amy G July 21, 2014 at 5:42 PM

I always have a hard time picking a favorite from your outfits. Your dark crops and bermudas fit you so well, and I think that makes those simple outfits great. That cardigan does look great with that dress – I can see what that’s your favorite. I actually really like the mint T with your light cardigan and jeans – it’s simple, but I really like the lightness of it, I guess. I don’t know, it just stood out to me. Very cute!

    • Caitlin Author July 22, 2014 at 6:57 AM

      Thanks, Amy!

  • Casey July 22, 2014 at 12:52 AM

You did AWESOME!! I’m getting in a rut and decided to swap some pieces! What I realized is how much i don’t care for one of my tops so it’s going in the donation bin! I tried, but it just don’t like it!! You’re supposed to love everything in your closet, right?!? Btw we were camping most of the week so I think I only have 3 outfits! Argh! Xo

    • Caitlin Author July 22, 2014 at 6:58 AM

Casey, it’s great you’re learning so much about your closet! Yes, you should love everything in it or it should be functional for some part of your life (like old clothing to work/camp/etc.) No worries- some weeks life happens, and you live in a few things. Hope you had a great time!

  • Valerie July 22, 2014 at 7:58 AM

Such great looks Caitlin! I love your style! Those black wedge sandals are super cute and you have such great looks from casual to cocktail attire- so versatile!

    • Caitlin Author July 23, 2014 at 7:20 AM

Thanks, Valerie! I can’t get over that you have 27 outfits already- that’s awesome! Can’t wait to see what else you come up with.

  • ADA July 22, 2014 at 8:09 AM

So many great looks Caitlin. I particularly love all the outfits with the shorts. You are nailing this challenge. I plan on doing a Summer 30 for 30 challenge in September (including shoes). Meanwhile check out, other ways I am remixing my closet and making even the most unusual pieces work for me in different ways.

My pleasure linking up. Thanks for hosting. <3 Ada.

  • Carly July 22, 2014 at 9:03 PM

Well, I love all your looks. So gorgeous! Everything looks so classic and elegant. I am thinking black wedges might be a good addition to my wardrobe. Thanks for hosting, taking the time to interact with all of us, and for the inspiration!

    • Caitlin Author July 23, 2014 at 7:21 AM

My pleasure, Carly! It’s such a blast for me. And yes- I’ve been reaching for my wedges so often it feels like they might need to be surgically removed at some point ;) Definitely a staple in my summer wardrobe!

  • Jill July 23, 2014 at 7:24 AM

So many great looks! My favorites are the white peplum top with the pink shorts and ivory blouse with the black shorts!

    • Caitlin Author July 23, 2014 at 6:54 PM

Thanks, Jill! So glad you stopped by :) Have a great night!

  • Iris July 24, 2014 at 4:23 PM

Hi Caitlin, sorry I’m a few days late in linking up but as I wrote in my post, we’ve had some unexpected things happen this past week! I’m behind on my blog posts but it’s all good! I’ve also had a few revelations during this challenge that I really want to share on my blog. I love all your looks, as usual! You are such an inspiration and I absolutely love your simple and classy style. Love, love, love!

    • Caitlin Author July 25, 2014 at 8:12 AM

Iris, no problem! That’s why I leave some time for you to link up. :) Looking forward to hearing what you’ve learned! Have a great weekend!

  • Brynn @ brynnash July 27, 2014 at 4:30 PM

I looove the outfit with the mint tee, and I’m smitten with your white peplum top as well :) I think the problem I’ve run into is that I have kind of exhausted all my options with shorts, but I don’t really like wearing dresses or skirts when I nanny…so that’s been a little frustrating right now. Oh well! I have noticed some things about some of the pieces I’ve chosen as well – like, I don’t like wearing my white skirt because it gets sooo wrinkly sooo fast, my navy/white striped shirt has a hole in the sleeve, there’s a weird marker stain on the back of my mint tee, my black tee is getting sheer, etc. I’ll be glad to have the rest of my closet back, but I’ll need to replace a couple of things as well eventually.

    • Caitlin Author July 28, 2014 at 9:31 AM

Brynn, it sounds like you’re learning a TON, not only about your pieces, but about replacements and why you don’t like things. Looking forward to seeing this week’s looks! :)

  • Susan Jeffries July 30, 2014 at 6:15 AM

I am stopping by from Alison’s link up today! I am so glad I found you! I love this mix up – I need every piece!! That white peplum top is a must have! I am excited to see more! Blessings, Susan

    • Caitlin Author July 31, 2014 at 8:30 AM

I’m so glad you did, Susan! Remixing is the main focus of GTR, so there will be lots more :) Looking forward to getting to know you better!

  • Sarah @ Tucker Up July 30, 2014 at 9:59 AM

Where have you been hiding that nude and black sequin skirt?! LOVE!

    • Caitlin Author July 31, 2014 at 8:34 AM

Thanks, Sarah! :) I’m a little obsessed but haven’t worn it much yet. I’ve got a dressed down way coming for the final week’s worth of looks, and I’m working on coming up with a few more ways to wear it. It’s one of those pieces that just makes me happy :)

  • Jenn April 9, 2017 at 11:28 AM

Wow! Love these looks! You look fabulous in all of them. I’m really loving the shade of your chartreuse sweater. Having a hard time finding one in my area. Could you tell me the brand name? Might make it a little easier to find similar. :)

    • Caitlin Author April 13, 2017 at 9:47 AM

Hi Jenn! That’s so kind of you, thank you. The sweater is from a few years ago, but I got it at Loft. I hope you find one you love!
