simple focus

SIMPLEfocusI know I talk about the challenge all the time, but I can’t seem to help it. It revolutionized my life. I was constantly pushed out of my comfort zone and forced to say no to my wants. That might sound terrible (and sometimes it felt that way), but it was so…wonderful at the same time.

I miss it.

Yet I’ve come to the realization it’s not so much the challenge itself I miss as the idea behind it. The pushing and prodding and intentional decision to limit myself. I crave simplicity and the change it brings.

So I’ve started a little experiment. For 31 days, I’ll simplify one part of my daily life by reducing, automating, or delegating. First up? Meal planning. Let the simple focus begin.

I’m with you. Not being able to shop this year (after spending my allowance for the YEAR on a trip to Miami with my sister in the spring – worth it!) has been SO valuable to me. I’m already trying to get in the right mindset so that when my allowance “resets” in January, I don’t go crazy.

your challenge helped inspire my own challenge of buying no “new clothes” this year. i’m a little over halfway there and it has been sooo great.

Oh wow! That’s incredible, Lindsay! I’m glad it’s been such a good thing for you.

Meal planning and organizing my fridge is something I’d like to challenge myself to do consistently.

this sounds great! I tell you, you read my mind. today during my quiet time I was thinking about how my “challenge” has caused me to simplify my life and how I need to be a better steward about all the things I own, not just my clothes. one area is meal planning! I cannot tell you how often I go through my fridge and pantry and start throwing away wasted food (in fact I just threw away a bunch of stuff just now – vegetables gone bad, crackers that are stale, expired canned foods – I mean how long do you have to have a canned item in order for it to expire! as always looking forward to what you have in store! oh another area I need to be better with is beauty products. I tell you, the challenge got me organizing like a mad woman and so as I organized my closet I also did my bathroom cabinets. very eye opening!

Iris- I did the same thing! I went through everything and was more conscientious about what we had and what I added to it last year than ever before. I’ve kept some of those habits, but I’m really interested to see if it works in reverse; tweaking my actions rather than items. You never know if you don’t try, right?
