Shop Your Closet Winter Remix: Week 1

Shop Your Closet Winter Remix: Week 1

“You’ve got nice clothes, so wear them.”

I can’t even count the number of times I’ve told friends and clients this. As I look at my photos this week, it’s pounding in my head over and over and over again like a drum beat. I did, actually, push myself a little, and put together a couple of skirt outfits, and I loved the lace detail blouse with the fur vest look, but for the most part, I stuck to super comfy looks that used the black tee, black crew neck sweater, and jeans that are in my 8 pieces.

These staples and more laid back looks make sense since I work from home, but I want to keep wearing the dressier items I have even when there’s no “reason” to. Who cares if I wear a tulle skirt to the grocery store?

That being said, I love how cuffing sleeves and pant legs and using a different completer piece can totally change the look of basic pieces. Add a statement necklace, and you’re immediately more polished.

The choice to stick to those 8 pieces and put together outfits using at least one is going to stretch me as the month goes on- I’m excited to get more creative!

Now, enough about me- how was your week? What looks did you create, and how are you feeling about them? Link up and comment below! (If you’re just joining us, the remix and giveaway details are below!)

I’ve had fun with this remix so far – although I think for most of my outfits I played it pretty “safe.” Except for Sat. when I paired the grey top with the chevron dress. That was definitely different than what I usually wear and I like how it turned out! Adding cuffs to pants or a shirt is a good suggestion – I think I will try to focus on small changes like that &/or using different accessories to create some new outfits this week.

That’s a great goal, Summer! And it’s great to come up with “safe” outfits. That’s definitely part of remixing. It shows you how versatile your pieces are AND pushes you to create new combinations. Proud of you!

I can’t pick a favorite look! So pretty and inspiring. Definitely pinning these outfits for reference later on.

For some reason I had in my mind that today was the day to start documenting outfits, so I guess I’m a week behind. Oops! I’m still in, though! I may not get around to blogging my experience this time, but I will definitely link up on Instagram.

    • Caitlin Author February 12, 2015 at 7:39 AM

No problem, Rebekah! The link ups are all open a week past the final link up day, so if you do want to blog, you’ve got some time. Excited to see what you come up with!

I love your remix posts! Thanks for doing them :). Will you be posting the brands for the items? I know some are not in stores now but i like seeing where the clothes are from, in case I want to search online consignment stores for them. I especially like your skirts.

    • Caitlin Author February 12, 2015 at 7:40 AM

Thanks, Jana! I hadn’t planned on it right now, but I’ll keep it in mind- in the meantime, if there’s a specific piece you want to know, like the skirts, just ask! The tulle skirt is Lauren Conrad from Kohl’s, and the printed pencil skirt was from The Clothes Mentor- I think it’s Ann Taylor originally.

I really like the lace detail blouse with the vest too! Very cute! Also really like the tulle skirt outfit. I like that your skirt is a more understated shape and color than most tulle skirts. It looks great styled with simple basics here!

    • Caitlin Author February 12, 2015 at 7:42 AM

Thanks, Amy! I really like those things about it, too. It feels more authentic to my life. I’m excited to find other pairings for it that fit my style.
