Remix Rewear Restyle I Patterned Bottoms

Remix Rewear Restyle I Patterned Bottoms

I have a confession about today’s remix. Every time I say ‘patterned bottoms’ in my head, I giggle. I think I might still be a 4th grader deep down.

But I couldn’t come up with a better way to title this week’s challenge, so now, let’s giggle together as we share our take on this week’s patterned bottom remix. (If you weren’t giggling before, you are now, aren’t you? You’re welcome :))

But seriously, if you don’t have a pair of patterned bottoms, they are incredibly versatile and a great way to add a punch of fun and color to a summer wardrobe. Shorts, a pencil or maxi skirt, palazzo pants (those soft flowy pants that look a little and feel a lot like stylish pj’s), a printed trouser- all great options.

For today’s remix, I went with my brocade skirt. It’s one of those pieces that is so easy, but always makes me feel like a million bucks. I paired it with my June 12 pieces addition, a favorite statement necklace, and my go-to summer wedges. They’re another summer staple in my book- just as comfortable as flats, but you automatically look a little fancier.

Speaking of stylish ladies, here are a few of my favorites from last week’s take on how to style a plain tee:

Tatiana showed us an incredibly chic twist on a tee and jeans.
Whitney shared her love of graphic tees, Michigan, and how to start up a good conversation.
Maria styled her aztec maxi skirt two ways using one of my favorite secrets: pulling the outfit’s color palette from one star item.

Thanks to everyone who shared their style with us!

Oh yay! Thank you so much for including me (and all of my Michigan love) in your weekly round-up! And this post totally has me giggling. My students are working on a review project while I’m sitting at my computer giggling to myself…if they didn’t think I was nuts already, they definitely do now! Thanks again for hosting my favorite weekly link-up!

Lol! Maybe they’ll just blame it on the end of the school year…unless y’all go year round. Then you might be out of luck :)

  • Selah June 9, 2014 at 8:56 AM

Haha! I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds patterned bottoms funny – I thought my kids’ humor was rubbing off on me. ;)
This is a beautiful look! The neutrals are fresh and the pattern and peplum details kick it up a notch.

    • Caitlin Author June 10, 2014 at 8:52 AM

:D Thanks, Selah! Hope y’all are having a great summer so far!

  • Iris June 9, 2014 at 9:27 AM

Good job on snatching up your June piece! It looks great here! And I’m sure you’ve imagined many more outfits with it. I haven’t had time to link up (or take pictures for that matter) but my favorite patterned bottom is my striped skirt. I had on a solid olive v neck tee and shorts for my summer SAHM outfit one day (I love that i can get dressed in 5 min w my closet staples). Hubby called bc he had forgotten his lunch and needed me to bring it to him at work. I quickly changed into my striped skirt and looked more appropriate for being introduced to coworkers at his office and yet I was still a comfy momma with my kids in tow for running a few errands while we were out of the house.

That’s great, Iris! You’re really learning how to work your closet, and I love hearing about the combinations you come up with. My favorite is hearing how much easier it is for you to pull out something to wear and feel great in it. So inspiring!

    That white peplum top….LOVE!!!

  • Maricel @ My Closet Catalogue June 9, 2014 at 11:44 AM

The entire ensemble is just simply perfection! Fave part: white peplum. Paired with all the neutrals here, it actually acts like a pop of color and stuns the eye (in a good way! :D) immediately. J’adore!

    • Caitlin Author June 10, 2014 at 8:54 AM

Maybe I’ll call it my stun gun top ;) Thanks, Maricel! LOVE your patterned pants look! So chic!

  • Tatiana Pujol June 9, 2014 at 11:46 AM

That skirt is so pretty! the white peplum top looks perfect with the neutral accessories.

  • Meghan June 9, 2014 at 9:45 PM

The pattern on that skirt is so subtle and perfect! Very elegant.

  • Carrie June 9, 2014 at 10:23 PM

I think this is a really pretty and sophisticated outfit. I especially love the peplum top – very versatile.

  • Amy G June 10, 2014 at 4:17 PM

This outfit is so classy! I can totally see why you feel great in it!

About RRR in general, I just wanted to say I’m sorry I haven’t been pinning my outfits, but I realized that anyone who follows me can now see me pinning pictures of myself, and I’m feeling a little uncomfortable with that, especially now that two of my brothers-in-law are following me! So, that’s why I’ve been slacking.
Also, just out of curiosity, are you thinking about doing a summer 20×30? The past ones have been great, but I know it takes a lot of photography time and planning.

    • Selah June 10, 2014 at 4:21 PM

Haha – that’s why I haven’t pinned my looks either! I feel weird pinning my own pictures, although I’m not sure why.
I have pinned some of my I inspiration pins though.

      • Amy G June 12, 2014 at 4:24 PM

Haha, I’m glad I’m not the only one!

    • Caitlin Author June 14, 2014 at 12:51 PM

Please don’t feel bad! I still feel weird about pinning myself, but it’s part of trying to inspire women to remix what they’ve got. I completely understand where you’re coming from.

And yes! Look for a post on that this week :)

  • Niki June 11, 2014 at 12:25 PM

Haha patterned bottoms. Now I’m giggling. I love this outfit – the skirt is gorgeous!

    • Caitlin Author June 14, 2014 at 12:52 PM

      :) Thanks, Niki!

Selah and I would like to throw in a vote for a “Dress like Audrey (Hepburn)” RRR. We’ve been discussing it over at my blog. Haha. Or perhaps some sort of “Emulate Your Style Icon” RRR!

    • Selah June 11, 2014 at 4:37 PM

      Yes, please!

    • Caitlin Author June 14, 2014 at 12:53 PM

Love it! I’ll put it in the vote for the next round! :)

  • leslie June 17, 2014 at 10:01 PM

this is a great look. Where did you get the peplum top. it’s such a great look and fabric.

    • Caitlin Author June 25, 2014 at 7:43 AM

Thank you, Leslie! It’s from J. Crew Factory, and the fabric is so comfortable! I think I saw it on sale in one of their e-mails the other day. Their measuring chart is very true to size if you want to order it online.
