Remix Rewear Restyle I Dress Up or Down

Remix Rewear Restyle I Dress Up or Down

Happy Monday, Remixinistas! How was your weekend?

Ours was pretty perfect. Beautiful weather, a few home projects (I finally gave up on flowers (they die every time) and we went with succulents. Or as Troy likes to call them, delectables. :D) a couple long walks, and a cook out complete with dinner outside. (If you’re an avocado lover, we had some as a side drizzled with balsamic vinegar and a little kosher salt and black pepper and it was to.die.for.)

If you’re new, Remix Rewear Restyle is a weekly challenge to shop your closet and show us how you style a certain piece. Don’t worry about being right or wrong- there aren’t any rules except to include a piece that fits the challenge. So go shop that closet and link up your look!

Today we’re remixing dresses. I have the hardest time finding good ones. I’m tall, so I have to be careful they don’t look inappropriate. Both of the dresses in today’s looks are long enough as is, but they have wide seaming at the hem, so I knew if they happened to shrink, I could let the hem out and still look respectable.

Another key thing I look for in a dress is versatility:

  • Does it work with both dressy and casual completer pieces?
  • Would belting it give me a different look?
  • Can it be worn as a skirt?

Here are two recent combinations and the way I plan to remix them this season:

Greater Than Rubies

If you’ve read GTR for long, you know I love mixing feminine and masculine pieces. The floral dress and faux leather clutch give so much character to the outfit. To top it off, I chose nude pumps;
they’re the perfect way to make your legs look miles long!

I’m planning to pair this dress with my black leather jacket at some point this spring
because I love the way the two play together so well.

Greater Than Rubies

Greater Than Rubies

You might recognize this dress from not too long ago. It is definitely my most versatile.
Now that it’s finally warm enough, I lost the tights and added a jean jacket.

Greater Than Rubies

Booties are great with skinny jeans, but I love to mix them with a more unexpected piece, like a dress.
It’s a great way to update your spring look.

And belts are a great way to dip your toe in the water when it comes to pattern mixing.
Because it’s a small print, it reads as a solid from further away.

Greater Than Rubies

I can’t wait to pair this dress with a variety of scarves and sandals as the weather warms up.

Alright, ladies! Let’s see your dresses.

I’m in love with that yellow dress! I’m also tall & have the same issue with length. Is that dress sold out? I saw the one that was similar but prefer the original one you’re showing.

Tarah, unfortunately I found my dress at The Clothes Mentor, which is a local consignment store. I looked for an exact one but wasn’t able to find it.

Caitlin! Squeeee! I ADORE the yellow dress! It’s so spring-y and happy! You put my offering to shame.

Thank you, Maricel- but not at all! LOVE that dress on you!

I agree on the nude pumps…I bought a pair for myself a while back, and I love how classy and slim they make me feel!!

I love the look with the striped dress! I actually have similar pieces so I might borrow your look sometime :)

Please do! I’m totally an outfit stealer :)

Caitlin, I really like both of these looks. The yellow and gray is just a gorgeous dress especially on you. Very pretty and feminine.

Cute looks! The yellow dress is especially fun! I struggle with dress lengths too, even though I’m short. Short dresses are still short on me, but the longer dresses that are supposed to hit at the knee are too long. That’s one of the great things about making my own!

Love the dressed up look! What a sweet yellow dress. Love it! :) -Alexandra

Too late again to link up, but I had good fun dressing my printed dress up and down so here’s the link to the outfits in Polyvore: http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=118554297
