Remix Rewear Restyle: DIY

Remix Rewear Restyle: DIY

Happy Monday!

So sorry for the late posting of RRR; my browser kept losing connection and this post. It must have had a case of the Monday blues, but thankfully everything is up and running now.

Troy and I were super blessed to get to celebrate our five year anniversary in St. Kitts last week. It was the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen, and it made me even more thankful for my pricelining-deal-finding-whiz of a husband. I’ll share some of our trip on Instagram this week if you want to see photos!

We had lots of fun firsts: snorkeling in the caribbean with starfish bigger than your head, trying sugar cane and mangoes straight from the trees, holding baby monkeys, and hiking up a volcano.

It was such an incredible trip that I’m only semi-excited to be back, so if I disappear, let’s just say you’ll know where to look! :)

Our flight home was delayed due to weather, so I had to come up with a quick DIY yesterday. It totally bombed. I took a risk with not having enough dye to turn my mustard maxi black, and it came out looking like literal poop. Sometimes, reworking a piece just doesn’t work. If that was the case for you this week, too, try not to be discouraged; there’s almost always a way to salvage it.

If all goes as planned, I’ll share two DIYs with you later this week to make up for today’s sad case. In the meantime, I’ll wear a cone of shame to pay my dues. :)

Because I don’t have an actual DIY to share yet, I updated the Remixing Vault with a few mouth-watering DIY’s this morning, and I’ll add more this week. Click here for tons of remixing and DIY inspiration.

Another great place to look for inspiration is Redress. They host monthly challenges (today’s remix is inspired by June’s!) to inspire sustainable fashion and encourage people to ‘redress’ items rather than throw them away. Their goal is to call attention to the impact our clothing choices have on the environment. Just the tiny bit I’ve peeked into the subject has made it clear that limiting purchases and disposal even slightly can have incredible effects. Check the hashtag #redress on Twitter and Instagram for oodles of inspo.

Alright ladies- enough chatting! It’s your turn. Share your DIY or the project you’re planning to tackle next by linking up below! I can’t wait to see what you’ve come up with.

Coming up:
June 30: Flashback :: Take a look from your childhood & give it a grown up spin.
We’ll pause our regular remixes for July’s Summer Remix Challenge.

If you’re new, we’re excited you’re here! Remix Rewear Restyle is a weekly challenge to shop your closet and show us how you style a certain piece. Don’t worry about being right or wrong. There aren’t any rules except to include a piece that fits the challenge.
So go shop that closet and link up your look below!

What a bummer your dye project didn’t work out! Hopefully you can dye it a second time and it’ll darken more and look like you want it to. I’m getting ready to dye some slim. dropped trousers that are at least 6 years old. They’re black with white pin stripes, but the black is getting faded at the knees, so my plan is to just dye them black and hope they’ll come out a solid color. I think they’ll be more versatile that way than with the stripes anyhow. I’ve also got some sewing DIYs in the works, but that’s not unusual for me. My husband is going to be gone a good chunk of next month, so I’m hoping to get lots of projects done.
Glad to hear you had a wonderful trip! I hope we have time to do something nice for our five year next summer!

I’m glad you had a nice anniversary trip. :) I spent my 5th anniversary on the couch eating Chili’s ToGo and watching CSI. :P I know that sounds awful, but I had a 6 day old baby.

Sounds like a perfect anniversary gift! :)

        • Selah June 25, 2014 at 7:49 AM

Yes, and 3 years later I got another one! She was all of 12 days old on our 8th anniversary, so we went OUT to Chili’s as a family. :D

Let me know how it goes! I agree; I think they’ll be more versatile all black, so I hope it works out! I’m excited to hear more about the DIYs you’ve got up your sleeve. Hope you’re having a great week, Amy!

Update – after dyeing, the crops still have pinstripes, even after leaving them in the dye for at least 30 minutes. I’m a little disappointed, but at least they don’t have faded knees anymore!

        • Caitlin Author June 26, 2014 at 7:42 PM

Boo! Will they still be able to be worn?

          • Amy G June 27, 2014 at 3:03 PM

Yep, still wearable! I wore them to work yesterday, actually.

          • Caitlin Author June 30, 2014 at 9:36 PM

Good! I’m glad they weren’t ruined.

I think your fail moment can turn into a “make it work” moment. Since you love challenges, I challenge you to style your new poop colored dress. If anyone can do it, I know you can!

    • Caitlin Author June 25, 2014 at 7:32 AM

Mm…I don’t think anyone could make the poop colored dress look good! But I promise to at least consider it :)
