Remix Love {Chambray 6 Ways}

chambray 6 ways

Y’all. It is just one of those days. I left my computer at the mechanic’s {one of our most-frequented places of late}, my lunch shared some orange chicken sauce with the back seat on the way to work, and about 3.5 things have gone as planned today.

But you know what? There are WAY more things to be thankful for. Like an impromptu dinner date with my handsome husband, and passing on my love of thrifting, and the fact that fall is coming soon and I can wear my chambray shirt again all day every day. {Hey, when a piece works, it works! I just pray your noses don’t.}

To convince the fall temperatures to come just a wee bit sooner {fingers crossed}, I pulled together a few looks from the archives for Audrey’s One Piece, Many Looks post.

When I’m running low on time, I tend to think in outfit “formulas,” if you will. I pick one piece I want to wear {ie: chambray}, and then pair it with something I know either it or a similar piece {like a button up} has paired well with. Nearly any plain button up looks great with a graphic print skirt, colored or dark wash jeans, layered, or with a scarf. Even just changing the scarf and sandals can create a unique look.

Remixing what you have can literally result in dozens of outfits- even if you don’t have a large wardrobe. {Proof.}

I’m thinking a similar remix is in order…would anyone be interested in doing it with me? Number of pieces and looks is up for debate.

    I would! I was going to do Audrey’s link-up (with my chambray button-down :P ), but I was just too busy house-hunting. You’ve inspired me to try my chambray with my houndstooth skirt! One of my favorite things to do with chambray is to tie it at the waist over a full skirt or dress. It makes even fancy skirts more casual (which means more wearable for me).

      I’ve been looking at my dresses and trying to think of ways to wear them differently. I looked at a pink floral one and I immediately said aloud in my closet to myself, “Chambray!!!” Haha!

      Yay for house hunting! I bet it looked great with your houndstooth skirt.

    Hello! I found your blog through the link up and right now I have no clue why I don’t have this piece in my closet! You are so right about it’s versatility and I can absolutely picture it under my cream colored leather jacket. Thanks for sharing your ideas:)

    • Caitlin Author August 4, 2013 at 6:38 PM

      Andrea- I’m so glad you stopped by! Chambray would look fantastic with a cream leather jacket! I honestly had it in my closet for a long time before I came up with a way to wear it and now I can’t stop. :)

  • Ashley McNeese July 31, 2013 at 12:42 AM

    Ha… I did chambray too! Love all of your outfits…especially with the black and white!

    • Caitlin Author August 4, 2013 at 6:40 PM

      Thank you, Ashley! I’m a little (ok, a lot) behind on checking out everyone else’s looks, but I can’t wait to see them. I’m always looking for ideas to remix my chambray, so I’ll definitely have to stop by and see your looks. Hope you’re having a great weekend!

    I’m a HUGE fan of chambray! :) I love each way you styled it, I think the scarf is my favorite though! So pretty, lady! Absolutely adore your style!

    • Caitlin Author August 4, 2013 at 6:40 PM

      Thank you so much, Kenzie!

  • Aubree July 31, 2013 at 10:44 AM

    As usual I love all of your looks! Have you worn the b&w skirt on the blog before? It’s awesome. I may be interested in some sort of remix… but right now is a tricky time for me. I only have a week and a half left of summer (WHAT?) before I return to my teaching job. I can dress casual for 7 work days until the students return, then it’s back to following a dress code. I will want to be wearing all of my new “back to school” clothes.

    • Caitlin Author August 4, 2013 at 6:42 PM

      Thanks Aubree! Yes…it’s been a while though. I’ve been wearing more of the clothes I’ve added since I started shopping again this year. That’s one of the reasons I want to do a limited number of pieces remix in the near future, to reinforce shopping my own closet. Hope you’re enjoying your last few days of freedom! :)

  • Whitney July 31, 2013 at 10:53 AM

    I would definitely be interested in doing a remix! Keep us posted :)

    • Caitlin Author August 4, 2013 at 6:42 PM

      I absolutely will! Thanks Whitney!

    I’m glad you put together this post, Caitlin. I swear, Chambray really does go with everything. I have to convince myself not to wear it everyday!

    I especially love the outfit with the striped sweater – makes me so ready for fall!

    • Caitlin Author August 4, 2013 at 6:43 PM

      Lol! Me too. Febreeze makes it possible, though, right? :) I’m with you on the ready-for-fall-ness. Come on, layers!

  • Iris July 31, 2013 at 4:11 PM

    Great compilation! I love the idea of looking at chambray like jeans but on top instead of on the bottom. It’s one of those simple yet eye-opening things I’ve learned during this season of my life! Totally diversified my wardrobe. Is diversified a word?

    • Caitlin Author August 4, 2013 at 6:44 PM

      Iris- that’s a great way to look at it! Really, it goes with almost everything. And yes- diversified is totally a word!

  • Emily August 1, 2013 at 2:25 PM

    I’m down! :-) keep us posted! Chambray is something I wear all year long! Which is why I absolutely love love love them!! :-D love your outfits! :-)

    • Caitlin Author August 4, 2013 at 6:44 PM

      Lol! Thanks, Emily :) I wear mine year-round, too. It’s just so remixable. How can you not?!

  • Sarah @ Tucker Up August 7, 2013 at 9:58 AM

    You are the queen of remixing! I need to learn your ways. Thanks for linking up! We need another dinner date soon. I’ll talk to Chris and see about a Sunday after church.
