a new outfit…there’s something almost magical about it. it makes you feel prettier, more confident, excited about the day.

or at least these are the feelings that i used to have with a new purchase. but then once i’d worn an article of clothing as many ways as i thought i could (which was often only one or two ways), or i’d worn those two outfits several times, i’d grow tired of said item(s) of clothing and the hunt would commence for something new to make me feel that way again.

taking that option away has forced me to reevaluate my closet (and emotions). i was a bit surprised to find that i get the same feelings from remixing items already in my closet. in fact, i feel even better about my “new” ensembles because there isn’t a trace of guilt from buying something i knew deep down i didn’t need and maybe even didn’t like all that much.

i’m a bit ashamed to admit that i’m 3 1/2 months into the challenge and there are still (a lot of) items in my closet i haven’t worn. i’m thinking a purge may be in order. if not now, definitely when the year is over…

This week I listened to a podcast by Andy Stanley along these lines. Like, how we have a felt need for something new, and we get it thinking it’ll satisfy us, only to be left feeling that way again. Ugly cycle, ugly little beast. I’ve got a lot weighing heavily on my mind about blogging and following the Lord, and I can’t tell if it’s just hormones (ha!) or something more significant. If it persists after this week, don’t be surprised when you get an email from me pouring my heart out and asking for prayer haha. :)

Oo what is the title of it? I want to listen to it.

And yes. It is SUCH an ugly cycle. Know that I am praying for you and if you need to, send that e-mail!

We’re totally on the same page today! I’m also wearing a new “combo” that makes me feel awesome, and was bothered by how many clothes I still haven’t worn! I think we’ve had that conversation though…anyway, if you purge in the near future – send them my way first! Or maybe we can do a trade….I think it’s getting to be about that time (at least for me!)

Love it. I’m so glad we’re going on this journey together!!

I still haven’t decided if I’m going to clean out, but come on over and borrow some stuff!

I’m totally on the same page here, as well. I love the excitement of a new combo but looking at my already too full closet definitely creates guilt at having spent money on things that lose their luster after a wear or two. It’s so nice to be reminded that even though styling cute outfits is fun, its just temporary :) Great perspective, Caitlin!

@Audrey – i am such an Andy Stanley fan – amazing how he can take truths like the recurring sense that something will satisfy and the let down when it doesn’t, and make them so applicable.

      Thank you so much, Elizabeth!

And now I’m definitely going to listen to Andy Stanley. Y’all have me curious!

I hope you have a fantastic day. :)
