pick your cupcake

the steps i’ll be writing over the next couple of days can be done all at once {if you have a couple of hours} or be spread out.

so pick your cupcake. {this is my new, positive spin on the ‘pick your poison’ saying. you like?}

now that your pinning is complete, look for common themes.

mine are:

  • suit separates (blazers, pencil skirts, and trousers)
  • layering pieces: jackets, button ups, vests
  • jeans of varying cuts
  • sparkles and feminine details

take your ‘common themes’ list and head to your closet.

separate items into two categories:

  1. pieces you love to wear and/or that match your list.
  2. items you rarely wear and/or are not on your list.

i’ve always found that it’s good to leave my closet at this point. i tend to over-purge, so i’ve found separation and time to think is good for me.

however, if starting and finishing a task all at once is your MO, come back tomorrow for the next step and complete them together!

    My common themes are:
    • Classics patterns (stripes, houndstooth, plaid, and polka dots).
    • Neutral and pseudo neutral colors (like olive, plum, and blush – they mix well with lots of other colors).
    • Skinny or wide leg jeans
    • A-line skirts and dresses

I’m an overpurger too. I’ve learned to keep what I’ve purged (not just clothes, anything) for at least 2 weeks before actually getting rid of it.

I like pick your cupcake :)

Girl- great minds think alike! That’s almost exactly what I just said in today’s post :)

Love your common themes! Especially the pseudo neutral colors.

I have really been loving everything you have posted lately- the timeless wardrobe series is great. I came back to this post to let you know that you inspired me to get a plaid scarf. And now that I have a cream sweater (just got one for Christmas) I will be wearing a similar outfit. Thanks!

P.S. here is the link if you want see my scarf :)
