Clothing is a powerful tool. It can boost your confidence, change the atmosphere inside your home, and even inspire you to make a difference. It can also give you a poor self image, take up too much time, and waste money.

A year long break up with shopping in 2012 made these things incredibly evident in my life. Utilizing what I had helped me discover a classic, no fuss style. It also took away guilt associated with shopping, and helped me become a better steward of our finances. In 2013, I spent less on clothing than ever before, yet my wardrobe is more versatile. Through a Style Session, I want to help you better utilize what you have, build a highly remixable wardrobe, and look polished and expensive while spending less. Style Coaching Services

Greater Than Rubies Consultation Services: Wardrobe Remix, Remixable Shopping List

Melissa is a 30-something working mom and it was a ton of fun to help her view her closet through new eyes. Together, we came up with over 70 “new” outfits from her current wardrobe.
You can read her full review here.

Hi, my name is Melissa and I have just like many of you, I believed the lie “I have nothing to wear.”  I am a 30 something mom to a 5 year old daughter who is the joy of my life and a wife of nine years. I have been working as a teacher’s aide with kids in grade level K-12  for the past eight years. I also taught as a Preschool teacher before that. I love working with kids. I tried to wear clothes that I don’t really care about in case they got dirty.

My style was nonexistent. Just throw on a simple tee, a sweatshirt/jacket if cold and some jeans and I was good to go. Not very happy or stylin’ but good to go. :) I have always loved fashion and dreamed about my perfect wardrobe. Last year, I started a fan page on Facebook posting all the wonderful tips, ideas and DIY’s I have found on clothing and hairstyles. It has now become my hobby of mine. That’s how I found Caitlin’s blog during one of my many searches.

I started following Caitlin’s blog about four months ago and I was so impressed with how easily she was able to create and mix fabulous looks with classic pieces over and over again. Pieces that even I could find in my own closet. I wanted to be able to stretch my wardrobe the way she did. The only problem was when I tried to pick out an outfit on my own I couldn’t quite get it right.  That’s when I decided that I needed Caitlin’s help.

With Caitlin’s help I was able to see the possibilities and really understand how certain pieces could work together. She showed me over 70 different outfits I could make with my clothes that I thought had no purpose.  Caitlin walked me through simple guidelines that I could apply when trying to put an outfit together. She was always very kind and considerate and made me feel good about the clothes I already had. At the end of our consultation she gave me a small challenge and at the end of the challenge I felt more confident in myself. Now I refuse to believe the lie “I have nothing to wear,” and I see all the possibilities. It was fun learning with Caitlin.  She helped me appreciate just how versatile a piece can be and I feel now that I have countless new ways to create fabulous outfits too.

Meet Lauren

Consultation Services: Wardrobe Remix & Remixable Shopping List

Hi! My name is Lauren and I just had a wardrobe consultation with Caitlin. If anyone has ANY questions or doubts about your wardrobe, definitely set up a consultation with her! It was absolutely invaluable for me. Although I feel I have some good and versatile pieces in my wardrobe, I tend to create the same outfits over and over again. I pair the same top with the same cardigan, pants, and shoes and therefore often have the urge to buy more clothes just to have more options. After meeting with Caitlin, I have an entirely new appreciation for my wardrobe. She gave me a ton of pointers about which colors and patterns go with each other and paired items I would have never thought of putting together – now those outfits are some of my favorite wardrobe combinations! I was also able to have her help me with some key pieces I have in my closet (turtle brown chords and leopard print flats) that I love but don’t know how to pair with other things.

She helped me appreciate just how versatile those pieces are and again, helped me see how many outfits I could create with what I already have. She also helped me finally decide to give away a black leather jacket I’ve been holding onto for 5 years but have rarely worn by pointing out how poorly it fit my body and what I should be looking for instead.

At the end of our time she assessed all the pieces I currently have and helped me come up with a list of helpful future clothing additions that will be highly re-mixable and a good long-term investment. Her help was worth every single penny! Instead of spending the money to add one outfit to my closet, I feel I now have countless new outfits to wear. She approaches the consultation in a way that made me feel good about what I currently have, but also challenged me to get out of the box and be willing to try new things. I highly recommend her services and know anyone who does a consultation with her will be beyond pleased!

Meet Sharon

Consultation Services: Fit Evaluation & Remixable Shopping List

My favorite part of the consultation was seeing all the possibilities in the wardrobe I already have. That was freeing. I figured you helped me come up with at least 40 outfits in just the pieces we worked with. And I know there are at least that many more in adding other items to pieces we talked about as well as applying your suggestions to items we didn’t cover.  I no longer think in terms of what I still have to buy to “complete” my wardrobe; now I can see the potential in what’s already here. It has led to a sense of optimism when I go looking for an outfit to wear. The Remixable Shopping List is a great reminder to shop wisely.  Guidelines coupled with specific pieces to be on the lookout for is so helpful in focusing on needs rather than impulse purchases. I went on a shopping trip soon after we met, and tried on everything I considered buying. I only got one top, resisting the urge to buy ‘sale’ stuff because it was close to something I wanted – and wanted now! I now have you in my head when I shop and that is a very good thing!    My peace of mind in having the consultation as well as my knowledge in how to shop in the future, will quickly save the consultation price and more!

Meet Lindsay I Greater Than Rubies

Consultation Services: Wardrobe Clean Out & Wardrobe Remix

You gave me more confidence in the clothes I already have and that I am doing some things right when I shop. I liked that you pointed out different styles of neck lines and other things like that [to multiply remixing options].

My favorite part of the consultation was talking to you and getting to show you my actual clothes even though we live so far away. [Lindsay is out of state, so we did the consultation via Skype.]

You made me feel comfortable with my how my body is and what I already have! Thank you, Thank YOU!
