my bestie

we’re in a marriage series at church right now, and our pastor has been explaining the design of and value in being best friends with your spouse.

being a best friend doesn’t happen by accident. i love that troy gets that and works hard to be mine. this series has challenged me to really think about some of the reasons we’re besties and here are my favorites:

  1. troy sees me at my worst- junk, baggage, sin, and all, and still loves me unconditionally.
  2. he lovingly and consistently speaks difficult truth to me, and has patiently modeled and coached me as I’ve learned to do that with him and others. (if i’m honest, i still sort of suck at that, but we’re making progress!)
  3. he can always make me laugh- even- and especially when- I don’t want to.
  4. i get calls and texts during the day just to say hi, that he loves me, and ask how I’m doing.
  5. troy’s adventurous spirit results in craziness, lots of memories, and me becoming more like him. fun at times, scary at others. :)

First, I definitely consider my husband to be my best friend. What else do you call the person who sees you day-in and day-out for YEARS (tomorrow will 12 years exactly!) and still loves you?!? One of my favorite examples of a couple who were best friends is Paul and Julia Child. They even referred to themselves as “Pulia” because they felt like they were two halves of the same person. Her autobiography, “My Life in France” is essentially a love story of a couple who supported each other 100%.

Second, I love this outfit! You look super cute. :)

Happy 12th Anniversary, Selah!!!! I hope you and your husband have a wonderful day celebrating together.

PS Thanks for sharing about Paul and Julia. I want to read her autobiography now!

Thanks! We’re “weird” people who celebrate our anniversary with our kids – Finding Nemo 3D and dinner at Chili’s :)

Julia’s autobiography is great! You’ve seen Julie & Julia, right? If not, it’s a must!

Not weird at all! I hope the celebration was fantastic :)

I have seen it! And loved it. Even more reason to check out her autobiography!

Thanks! The celebration was great. At dinner, my son snuggled up next to Daddy in the booth and said it had been “the best day ever.”
