Make It Work: Striped Tee + October Lovely Lookbook Reveal

Make It Work: Striped Tee + October Lovely Lookbook Reveal

In most cases, knowing what you like and what you’ll wear is great. But when it comes to finding a replacement for something, it can make things REALLY hard. I’ve been searching for a replacement for my favorite striped sweater for over a year now, and I still haven’t found one I love.

But when I saw this striped tee with leather sleeves on major sale, I knew I would wear it just as much, plus, it can be layered to look similar to outfits I’d worn in the past with my sweater.

T always says the most ridiculous things while we’re shooting and I have to wade through tons of laughing photos, so I thought I’d share one with you today. :)

Greater Than Rubies

Right now, it’s still hot, so I’ve been pairing this top with skinnies and sandals. It was almost cool enough to swap in a pair of booties for this shot, and it’s making me itch for fall.

Here’s how I plan to make this piece work dressed up and down:

  • Up: I could layer a cardigan or blazer over top, and add a pair of slim trousers or a skirt for work. A pencil or an A-line skirt would both look great.
  • Down: sub in boyfriend jeans and ballet flats for errand running or a laid back date with Troy. Because the shirt has a bit of a rectangular shape, I would do a half tuck (just the front) when I pair it with boyfriend jeans to define my waist and look slimmer.

How do you dress a tee up and down?

Speaking of making it work, The Lovely Lookbook for October has been chosen! By y’all of course ;) The topic is fall colors, and we can’t wait to see the looks you come up with on October 1st!

A big thanks to everyone who joined Sarah and me for the September link up of The Lovely Lookbook! We’ve loved pouring over your looks! You can read all about The Lovely Lookbook here and browse all the dresses linked up here.

Fabulous outfit! I love the tee. I think striped tees/sweaters are hard to find. I always have trouble finding the width of stripes I want. Sometimes when they are too close together, they both my eyes. Where did you get the top?

Thanks, Carly! I agree. It has to be just right when it comes to stripes for me :) The top is from J. Crew Factory. It was on major sale during Memorial Day Weekend.

Looking for replacements is really hard. That’s why I have more than one purple cardigan – I couldn’t find one that was as perfect as my old one, but the gap it left in my closet really needed to be filled. The striped shirt/sweater you hard would be hard to replace. Most striped shirts I’ve seen are either navy instead of black, or have wider stripes than yours. You can work this one though, just in different ways, like you said. It works well with the olive skinnies for your near-fall look here!

It does stink when you can’t find one as perfect as what it’s replacing…when I find the perfect striped sweater I may get more than one now that I know how tricky it is! Ha :)
