Living with Less

This infographic is fascinating to me. it puts into a visual so many of the things we’ve been talking about lately.

It also brings up a couple of questions:

  • What do I wish I was spending more time on?
  • What is keeping me from spending time on that?
  • What are concrete steps I can take toward changing that?

If these deeper questions are answered, I think our definition of enough will take care of itself. What do you think?

Wow. The space per person and per family is crazy. I believe it, though. It seem like when people build new houses they’re always big, even though they really don’t need the space.

See, this is one problem I had while house-hunting. Because I work from home, and homeschool, we really do need more space than a typical family of 4. We didn’t want to build, so we had to go with what was available. In order to get the extra space we need, we ended up in an oversized house. Our school space is 2x the size it needs to be, and we have an entire extra room, that I’m turning into a library. My house is too big, I admit it, but it was the best choice of the options available to me. I promise that I’m fighting the urge (and my husband) to keep from filling it with stuff, just because we have the space.

Selah, I think that’s great! It totally depends on what fits your family. I just found this so interesting and something I want to keep in mind over the years as our family grows. Like you said, it’s important to work with the options available to you- and then you hit the nail on the head: keep from filling our space with stuff ‘just because’ it’s available to us. Love you and your heart!

Wow! What a great explanation. My takeaway from this is to simplify! I was hit by how we spend time maintaining our stuff. I want to spend time with my family, not organizing my closet or garage!

Yes! Sometimes that’s hard, and the organizing can seem more urgent than it really is, but spending that time with family instead has a much greater value in the long run.
