if i could say it to you, i would, but know that i memorized my verse!
this month i’ve chosen to memorize isaiah 58:13-14; verse 13 for the first 15 days and 14 for the last half of the month.
the whole chapter is one of my favorites- God talks about how the israelites’ empty worship and sacrifices aren’t what He’s looking for. fighting for justice, freeing captives, caring for the poor…that’s what He wants to see. as many times as i’ve read it, the last 2 verses of isaiah 58 have never made much of an impact on me, but this time they leapt out from the page:
“If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath,
from doing your pleasure on my holy day,
and call the Sabbath a delight
and the holy day of the Lord honorable;
if you honor it, not going your own ways,
or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly;
14 then you shall take delight in the Lord,
and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth;
I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father,
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
i’ve mentioned 7 oh i don’t know like a billion times, and the entire thing is changing how i live my life, but the last chapter about rest hit me hardest- exactly like this passage of Scripture.
God has begun to change my heart so that i truly desire to seek justice, care for the poor, and love the way He does, but i haven’t obeyed His command to rest weekly. heck, if He took a day of rest after creating everything, then i surely need a break every week, too!
i’m excited to see how memorizing and putting these words into practice changes things this month.
