january musings

kat and i are almost a month into our challenge and i’ve had some time on my hands this week, so i thought it was a good time to write down my thoughts thus far.

it hasn’t been as hard as i thought it would be to not buy anything and only remix my own closet. granted, i am only 1/12th of the way through, but i haven’t had any big urges to shop (except for one day i had to open at the attic but i made myself stay away from the clothing racks and it wasn’t that bad!) and i’ve honestly felt inspired by what’s in my closet. (not going to lie- pinterest really helps with that as well as several style blogs i’ve found as a result. especially this one.)

added bonus: there are still lots of winter looks i’ve got floating around in my mind so i’m ok with the season lingering around in texas for a while. (especially because it’s nothing like the winters i grew up with. 50-60 degrees beats negative 7 every time.)

the most difficult thing so far has been to earmark the money that i would have spent on myself if i had gone clothes shopping. it was tempting to spend my extra cash on a date night with troy. i think this month i’ll go back and look at my 2011 budget and see exactly what i spent, then use that number as a base for what i would have spent this year.

until february, my friends! (just kidding. i’ll see you tomorrow.)

You would have been proud of me yesterday! We went shopping at the markets in Krabi and I didn’t but anything! I think I had OD’d on shopping when going to the markets in Beijing! It felt good to not buy anything if I didn’t really need it — even if it was a good price.

I am SO proud of you!! That’s my struggle- it’s hard for me not to snatch it up if it’s a good deal- sometimes I’m more enamored with the deal that with the item. Not good. Way to be strong! Love you :)

You look fantastic! Coincidentally, I have a top this color with a bow and wore an outfit similar to this (which never made it to the blog). I enjoyed reading your update about being a month in. Please continue to write about it along the way!

So sad it didn’t make it to the blog! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for the top and ways you remix it. I love a bow and obviously remixing :) You have no idea how many of your outfits I have saved on my Pinterest board and in my Evernote fashion inspiration notebook. I may keep the number to myself so you aren’t creeped out…

Actually, now that I’m looking more closely my top is more brown, whereas yours looks orange–so purdy. I think I wore it with red pants on the blog once so far. And I’m seriously so glad (and honored) that you’d pin my outfits! I don’t think it’s creepy because I’m hoping that my blog will help make it easier for people to get dressed. And let’s not even talk about how many of Kendi’s outfits I’ve saved. I’m so creepy that I don’t even pin 95% of them because I don’t want anyone to find out. hahaha

Oh my goodness of course! You’re adorable and so trendy! You absolutely make it easier for me to pick out outfits. And let me tell you- I do the exact.same.thing. My husband tells me it’s creepy and he’s probably right, but I really do use all my inspiration pics that I’ve pinned and clipped to get dressed everyday!
