dear january

today i am tired. i’m tired of my closet. i’m tired of remixing what i have. i just want to buy some new pieces.

i have (a lot of) things i’ve worn once or twice or not at all this year.

it’s the items i feel great in that go with multiple options that always win out.

dear january 1, please come quickly.

Hang in there Caitlin! You are doing a great job of remixing! I mean, seriously, look at the color combo you’re wearing in this post – SO pretty!

Cool weather is only 2 months away and you’ll have lots of “new” clothing choices. Plus, more layers means more remixing options. Be encouraged – you can do this!

Aww thank you, Selah! I totally agree- I think what I really am ready for is some cooler weather and the layers that come along with it. I painted my nails navy yesterday in protest of August. :) Hope you have a great Monday!

I have been struggling, and I mean all out wars in my head, with jealousy and keep-up-with-the-Jones-ness. Your posts, your honesty and your struggles help me realize that it is an ongoing effort. One that will wear you out some days and others you will feel motivated by your progress and the work God is doing in you. Thank you for being transparent because sometimes I feel totally alone. I really needed your post this morning.

Christina- thanks for sharing. You put the journey we’re all on so eloquently. Thanks for being such an encouragement to me!

I don’t know how you do it!! I’m on a one month shopping ban, which I may extend to 2 months, but A WHOLE YEAR! I am so in awe of you, and honestly inspired by it!

Way to go, Bri! I’m so proud of you for considering 2 months. It’s tough. Thanks for being so encouraging :) I hope you have a great night!

Caitlin! Have I ever told you what an inspiration you are to me? As I’m sure you know, it’s not easy to look at style blogs and BE a style blogger and not want to go out and buy something new everyday. Most other style bloggers will encourage me to spend, which isn’t helpful. And since most of my friends don’t read my blog, there’s little accountability there. But every time I want to go crazy and spend frivolously and uber materialistically I’m reminded of you and the challenge you’re doing this year. You help me to honor the Lord–with money, with my heart, with my attitude–in more ways than you know.

You warm my heart, Audrey! That sounds so cheesy but it’s absolutely true. Thanks for your encouraging words. And thanks for being my friend. :)

I think you look so cute! I love both of these pieces AND I love the fact that one of them was thrifted and one was swapped! I recently wrote about how hard it is to post outfits and then not want to buy more things. But the reason I started blogging my clothing in the first place was to be more challenged to wear what I have… it’s so hard! Thanks for your perseverance and inspiration!

    • Caitlin August 22, 2012 at 7:10 PM

Thank you for your sweet words, Ashley! It is so hard to not want to buy everything. High five to you for challenging yourself to remix what you’ve got! I’ll have to head over and check it out. Hope your’e having a great night!

I can across your post on wiww. I love this idea and would so like to do it! I think I may start with a month or two. Can you swap stuff in that time or does it all have to be yours? thanks so much for inspiring me!

Hi Missy! That’s great! I personally swap things and even borrow from friends. Feel free to make it work for you!
