capsule wardrobe: packing edition

9 x 20 sized 2

i’ve been working on building my timeless capsule wardrobe, and it’s coming in really handy for our upcoming vacation!

we’ll be gone for a week, and i don’t want to take half my closet, but there’s something about having lots of options that makes a vacation go better. {slash makes doing without that piece of clothing you spilled your very first meal on go better!}

my packing list includes 9 pieces plus 3 pairs of shoes and some accessories.

  • black tank {old navy, similar}
  • polka dotted tee {gap}
  • sequin blouse {tj maxx}
  • button up {old navy}
  • striped lightweight sweater {forever 21, similar}

  • yellow shorts {old navy, similar}
  • black skinnies {gap, similar}
  • black midi skirt {thrifted}
  • pale pink trousers {the clothes mentor}

keeping the palette mostly neutral makes it easy to remix. i also tried to pair casual and nicer pieces to give myself a wide range of options. if we get really fancy, i can pair the black tank and skirt to create the illusion of a dress.

before we take off, i’ll probably throw in another scarf and maybe a cardigan or two, just because i tend to get cold. but i’m pretty sure my suitcase will still be lighter than my husband’s!

    I really need to do this for my next trip because I tend to (aka always) overpack. So many cute pieces here, and I love how they’re all mixed up. I’m sure you’ll have a lovely and stylish vacation :)

      Lol! I always overpack, too. Well, until this trip. I’m pretty proud of my 30 pound suitcase for a week!

    We’re going on vacation next week and I’m only taking 12 pieces (plus accessories) too. I used Go Chic or Go Home to create my vacation capsule wardrobe and my outfit options. I was able to come up with 17 distinct outfits from my 12 pieces, which is plenty for a week long vacation. I actually used a fair amount of color but the colors all work together.
    I’m taking my raspberry Maxi dress, bright pink shorts, olive green skirt, dark wash cropped skinny jeans, 3 tank tops (black, olive, plum), chambray button down, B&W striped top, gray top w/ butterfly print, black sandals, and black Converse sneakers.
    Now I have to figure out what to pack for my kids!

      That’s impressive, Selah! The pieces you mentioned will all compliment each other perfectly. Hope the packing for the kids goes just as well. Have a great vacation!

    I actually had so much fun coming up with the vacation capsule wardrobe that I’ve created a second one for the last 2 weeks of May. I included a lot of pieces that I don’t wear much and I’m excited to see how it goes!

      Fun! How’s it going?
