Calling All Remixinistas: Pros, Newbies, & Wannabes

Calling All Remixinistas: Pros, Newbies, & Wannabes

Greater Than Rubies

Last week, we wrapped up the Summer Remix Challenge. It was 30 days of remixing 20 items of clothing into unique outfits, and if you haven’t had time to check out the hundreds of summer outfits to copy, stop, drop, and rollll your lovely self on over there.

The ladies who participated did SUCH a great job. I’m so proud of them!

At the beginning there were nerves, questions, and probably some fear, but they conquered all that and came out on the other side with double the outfit ideas for those same 20 pieces, new ideas for the rest of their closets, and knowledge about themselves, their closets, and their style that they didn’t have before.

I’m already planning a fall remix challenge, and I want to get some feedback from your beautiful faces. Please leave your answers to these questions and any other thoughts you’ve got in the comments below (or to caitlin (at) greaterthanrubies (dot) net) to help me plan the next remix!

  1. Are there tweaks to how you’d like to see the remix run/suggestions for making it more helpful? (A different number of pieces, different day of the week, etc.)
  2. If you haven’t ever joined a remix challenge but want to, what’s holding you back?
  3. If I offered a cheat sheet with outfit prompts for the remix, would you be more likely to join in?

PS I realize we’re not doing a Remix Rewear Restyle challenge today like usual. I have some fun info on that coming later this week!

I love seeing all your remixes. Although I LOVE remixing my clothes in general, I haven’t been inclined to the join the challenge just yet because I really like a lot of what’s in my closet and like remxing all the pieces for now It’s a bit long for me to stick to just so few pieces when I really like so much else of what I have. But I do love seeing what everyone else is doing!

That’s a great reason not to join, Jen! Thanks for sharing.

I work in a very fancy work environment and cannot wear my normal clothes 5 days a week. So it’s kind of hard to join since I am wearing completley different clothing on the weekends.

Sounds like you have a fun job, Sabrina! If there were more pieces, like a 30 piece, 30 outfit remix, would something like that make it easier for you to join?

I like the remix just the way it is! I know one remix we did Friday link ups and one Monday link ups, an both worked fine for me. I don’t feel like a cheap sheet is really needed. I did like that halfway post you did, with encouragement and some suggestions to help keep it fresh (and saying it’s ok to swap an unused piece, which made me feel better about my choice).

      Awesome feedback- thanks, Amy!

Cute outfit. I love 30×30 remixes. You really learn how far those pieces can go.

So true, Agi! Thanks for taking time to give feedback. Have a great day!

I really like the remixes you have had this year. It might be nice to try one with 30 pieces but I definitely like that your remixes are set up with our own pieces.

      Great feedback- thanks, Carrie! :)

as someone who’s never participated in a remix, i think a cheat sheet would be super helpful, especially since my hubby and i are moving in just over a month. i’m starting to think it’ll help a TON having a great capsule wardrobe to use while everything else is packed up in boxes!!

    • Caitlin Author August 13, 2014 at 7:58 AM

A capsule wardrobe would be SO helpful for moving! Check out this page for links to a couple seasons’ worth of capsule wardrobe ideas: Hope your move goes well! And thanks for the remix feedback, too.

We’d love to have you join in!!

I think I’m hesitant to join in on a challenge because I’m afraid something will come up that I didn’t plan for. But I think if that happened, I would just cheat if it was a true wardrobe emergency. I’m going to try the fall one, though! :)

    • Caitlin Author August 14, 2014 at 7:59 AM

Hey, if it’s a true wardrobe emergency, it’s totally allowed to cheat. In fact, for the last challenge, I had to pull out a non-challenge piece for a funeral, and when it took us 7.5 hours to get to a wedding that night that should have taken less than 3, I had to wear the dress to that, too. It’s not about following the rules crazy-like, but learning and growing in what you’ve got! Hope that helps :) And excited you’re planning to join the fall one!

This was the fourth remix challenge I have completed (I’ve done three 30x30s before), and I really liked it. Since I am a personal style blogger, I blogged one outfit each day of the week, with the exception of Mondays, when I posted two. That way, I could focus on one outfit at a time and I wasn’t just blogging all 6 outfits on one day. I would also recommend remixers to reflect upon the challenge afterwards. That’s one of my favorite parts of doing a remix challenge, because it’s when I reflect upon the past month that I really realize what’s working for me (and what’s not) in my closet!!

Great tips, thanks Brynn! So glad you were part of the remix. I loved seeing what you came up with!
