cake. and icing.

if you followed my june challenge, the pieces below should be ones you’re sick of a little like seeing an old friend.

although i was tired of wearing these pieces by themselves after june, i found myself wearing them again already in july- just mixed with other pieces. (like here and here.)

this year– june especially, has taught me that building a closet around pieces you feel great in and that mix well with each other is the most important part of getting dressed (aside from actually getting dressed that is).  it may take some trial and error to figure out what that looks like for you, but it’s well worth it.

these pieces, or a variation of them, will probably always form the bulk of my wardrobe:

  1. a pair of skinny jeans
  2. a tailored pencil skirt
  3. a mid-length skirt
  4. bermudas
  5. a neutral dress
  6. a printed top
  7. a detailed top
  8. (or two)
  9. a plain blouse
  10. a button up
  11. a cardigan

adding anything else is like icing on a cake! mmm…icing.

Aww, hello old friends! Your capsule wardrobe really did serve you well. It’s so much more versatile and true to life than most fashion articles about must-have items.

It was- is a great group of go-to’s. I think I’m going to have to do a fall/winter version as well. Only with a few more pieces! Hope you’re having a great week!
