about

By : Caitlin on

It all started with this lady (hence the name of the blog), this book, and this blog. Reading these messed me up. I was convicted that my love of shopping was an idol, and knew that I needed to do something about it, but wasn’t sure what. Not long after that, our church family was encouraged to give up something good for something eternal during 2012. God made it pretty clear that I needed to give up shopping for clothing and use the money I would have spent on myself to bless others. Greater Than Rubies became a way for me to be accountable in that and record my thoughts along the way.

I can honestly say that year changed the way I think about everything. Greater Than Rubies has morphed along with me on this journey, and now I write about simplifying the “to do’s” in our home and life so we can focus more on the “to be’s.”

Just found your blog! It’s so lovely, as are you! Quick question, can I ask where you and your husband moved from? My husband and I (and kids) are praying over a move to the San Antonio area (job permitting), but we are from the Seattle area and aren’t sure if Texas would be too much of a culture shock for us, you know? We love the heat though! :)

Of course! We moved from Indiana. It’s not as rainy as Seattle, but it can be! Seriously though, all I can say are good things about Texas. We love it. And if you like the heat, you’ll be just fine. I’ll be praying that God would make it clear to you all!

You are refreshing!! Your journey is very honorable and hits close to home. I too find myself feeling good/bad depending on my appearance rather on my self worth. Thanks for addressing that. I will be following you!!

Caitlin, I re-discovered your blog through the 7 for 7 remix. I was so inspired by your ‘challenge’ that I went back to the beginning of your blog to read your journey all the way through. And today I highlighted your challenge in my post. Thanks for your inspiring blog!
