It all started with this lady (hence the name of the blog), this book, and this blog. Reading these messed me up. I was convicted that my love of shopping was an idol, and knew that I needed to do something about it, but wasn’t sure what. Not long after that, our church family was encouraged to give up something good for something eternal during 2012. God made it pretty clear that I needed to give up shopping for clothing and use the money I would have spent on myself to bless others. Greater Than Rubies became a way for me to be accountable in that and record my thoughts along the way.
I can honestly say that year changed the way I think about everything. Greater Than Rubies has morphed along with me on this journey, and now I write about turning what we have into something greater, whether that’s becoming a better steward of what we possess or dreaming up ways to use our excess to bless others.
