7 x 7 Remix

I’ve been working on building my timeless capsule wardrobe since the challenge ended. When I saw the 7 x 7 remix coming up on Audrey’s site, I knew it was the perfect chance to practice with a few of the items I’ve added.

First, a look at my 7 items:

7 pieces sized

  1. Striped top {Forever 21- similar}
  2. Leopard tank {Ann Taylor via The Clothes Mentor}
  3. Black tank {Old Navy- similar}
  4. Midi skirt {Thrifted- vintage}
  5. Pink trousers {Gap via The Clothes Mentor}
  6. Black sandals {Target}
  7. Gray wedges {Target- similar}

And here are the seven looks I came up with:

7x7 remix

Some of the looks feel like me, and some stretch me a bit, but that’s the beauty of remixing! My favorite was using the black tank and skirt together to create the feel of a dress. I paired a turquoise statement necklace with them {top row} and then a summery hat {bottom row} to create two different feels. What’s your favorite trick for remixing basics?

Now- the best part is you can see lots of other remixes! Head over to:

  1. Ma Nouvelle Mode;
  2. Putting Me Together;
  3. Because My Life Is Fascinating;
  4. I Feel Pretty;
  5. Style Elixir; and
  6. For the Love of…

For some great inspiration to shop your own closet!

Thanks so much for hosting, ladies!

    I linked up too via GCOGH, but you have to be a member to see it. :(
    This was a fun challenge, and I learned that a printed bottom (probably a skirt) would be a great asset to my closet.

      Well now I’m a member! I’m going to have to figure out how to use it better to find your remix, though. Ha :)

      That’s great! Printed skirts are a great way to mix things up. Oo! And now that I’m on GCOGH, I can see the printed skirt you find! Can’t wait.

      Thank you, Jenni! I’m headed to do the same…can’t wait to see what everyone came up with! I hope you’ll have time to join the next round.

    You did such a great job, Caitlin! I too thought this was the perfect challenge to stretch my remixing skills. I love that you put the tank and skirt together to create a dress – smart! I definitely learned the power of accessories with this challenge – I was surprised at how much they changed up my look!

    • Caitlin Author June 14, 2013 at 8:40 PM

      Ashley, I totally agree with you. Accessories are like outfit magic. They can change up a look so quickly. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Audrey @ Putting Me Together June 12, 2013 at 6:56 PM

    YEAHHHH Caitlin! I love the pants you chose. This was probably a breeze for you considering the challenges you gave yourself last year! And your black maxi “dress” looks fantastic. :)

    • Caitlin Author June 14, 2013 at 8:41 PM

      Thanks, Audrey! It was so fun. I forgot how addicting it is. :)

  • Amanda Cobb June 12, 2013 at 7:08 PM

    • Caitlin Author June 14, 2013 at 8:42 PM

      Thanks Carly; you’re so sweet! You should! They’re very comfortable and I’ve dressed them up and down multiple times since buying them a couple of weeks ago.

  • Jackie June 15, 2013 at 1:22 PM

    I read up on your “challenge”, I’m so impressed with no shopping for a year! It’s so true that we all have more than we need. And these types of remix challenges highlight how you can create a weeks rotation of outfits with minimal items! I also liked your first look with the statement necklace!

    • Caitlin Author June 18, 2013 at 7:18 AM

      Thank you, Jackie! It’s so true; our closets have so many more combinations than we think. It just takes a little creativity, like with these remixes! They’re so inspiring.

  • Alison @ Get Your Pretty On June 15, 2013 at 2:15 PM

    Hi Caitlin – you did an awesome job with your remixes. Sticking with a color palette is key to making it work. My favorite has to be the dress you created. Thanks for playing along with us!

    • Caitlin Author June 18, 2013 at 7:16 AM

      Alison, no problem! Thanks for hosting! It’s always fun to see how others remix their closets.
