2018: A Year Without Shopping

Hi sweet friend!

This past year was a whirlwind for our family, so it’s been quiet around here, but I’m so excited for 2018!

Greater Than Rubies started as my diary about a year without shopping. I had always loved the feeling of a new outfit, but wanted to be a better steward of my resources.

It was one of my favorite years- hard, for sure, but I learned so much about myself and my style, and the simplicity of knowing I had to shop my own closet was so freeing.

The past few years, I set out to figure out if other women could use the same strategies I had to create new outfits and feel more polished and put together.

It turned out they could, so Greater Than Rubies turned into a business, and this year, I got to meet more women than ever and share strategies they could use to save money and time and feel fired up to do more of the things that matter to them!

This year I started a few new things that fire me up, too!

I got my real estate license, and get to work with a few of my favorite people every day to serve our friends and family and help them buy, sell, and invest.

I also just started working for our church in women’s ministry, and I’m so excited to serve women in a new way!

So life looks a little different these days, and I absolutely love it! But because there’s so much going on, I want to simplify in other areas, and one of the biggest ways will be my second year without shopping.

In 2018, I won’t buy any shoes, clothes, or accessories unless something needs replaced. Instead, I’ll mix and match and document my outfits on Instagram. I’m excited to see the difference between this year and the first, now that I’ve figured out my style and built up my closet!

Happy New Year from our family to yours, sweet friend! I hope this year is your favorite yet!

XO,

year without shopping

I love this. I have missed your posts lately. I thought of your “no shopping year” the other day while I was shopping, and I walked away from buying yet another purse because it was a great deal. My goal this year is to be deliberate and conscious in my decisions – from what I eat, to what I buy, to the things I say “yes” to. I can’t wait to follow along with you this year for inspiration!

I love that, Cynthia! I hope you’ll keep me posted on how being so intentional is going for you- I know it will be such a blessing for you!! If there’s anything I can do to help you, please just say the word. :)

I’ve missed your posts too! I’m looking forward to following along with the challenge you’ve set for yourself.
Also, I started working for our church in Women’s Ministry this past year too! How funny. For me, it’s been a challenging mix of maintaining established things and events and trying to experiment with new things at the same time. Hope your new ministry is going well!
