1920’s inspiration

i decided to start looking at fashion during the 1920’s, because that’s where i think our current wardrobe starts its repetition.

common themes in the twenties*:

classic pieces can always be styled to fit the trends of the moment. for example:

twenties looks new font

  • pearls of any length are always in style. (thanks coco!)
  • shift dresses can be belted to create a different look.
  • feminine bows range from large to small, but a medium size is classic.

my favorite picks from the 20’s for a capsule wardrobe:

what are your favorite pieces from the 20’s? are there any you know right off the bat would compliment your style?

* all of this is based on searching google and pinterest for images by decade. my goal was to get an idea of what trends dominated each era.

ps i created a pinboard i’ll use alongside this series. you can find additional looks from the 20’s there- including more modern twists!

Well, I’d like to say a big thank you to the 1920s for 1) the demise of the corset, 2) the introduction of pants to womenswear, 3) short skirts, 4) bobbed hair, 5) Art Deco jewelry. I think you’re right about our modern fashion beginning here. Obviously, there are many things in fashion that are much older but the modern freedom we enjoy in fashion definetly got it’s start in the roaring 20s.

I absolutely love this! I think your “timeless capsule wardrobe” is an incredible idea. I am all about classic styles that never leave us and I think your series is already showing that! I’ll be sure to continue to stop by :)
